Kindergarten Salty Watercolors

For this project, the kindergarten students experimented with different layering effects of watercolors.  They each received a piece of paper that had been taped off into sections with masking tape.  In each section, they created designs with crayons.  When they finished drawing, they painted over each section and watched as the wax of the crayons acted as a resist to the paint.  For they final layer, they sprinkled salt onto their wet paint to create a textured bubble effect.  Once the pieces dried, we removed the masking tape to reveal their finished masterpieces.
