The first grade students took inspiration from artist Gustav Klimt for this project. We began by taking pictures of each student pretending to sleep. Their faces and hands were cut out and glued to the middle of a piece of manila paper. Together, we drew a sleeping bag type shape around the pictures in black crayon. Then, the students played pass the paint to fill in their pictures with as many patterns as they could think of. The finishing touches were added with gold, solver, and bronze metallic tempera paint to replicate the gold leaf Klimt is known for.
