3rd Grade Pop Art Words

This week, the third grade took inspiration from Jasper Johns to create pop art. They used their name or a word that they associate with themselves (baseball, tigers, etc) as the subject. We started by folding a piece of paper into 8 equal rectangles. Then, we wrote our words in oil pastel so that each box got a letter. If the word was longer then 8 letters, they just wrote the letters that would fit. If it was shorter then 8, they repeated letters until all of the boxes were filled. Once the letters were written, we filled in the backgrounds with chalk pastels. We learned how to blend the pastels with our fingers so that all of the paper gets covered.
