The first grade students used colorful paint and folded paper to create these flowers. We began class by reading Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert and talked about the way flowers grow (some from seeds, some from bulbs). Each student received a piece of paper that had been folded to create 4 “V” folds. Inside these folds, the students dabbed different paint colors, then folded the entire paper up and pressed gently. When opened, each fold resulted in the blossom of the flower (or in some cases fruits & vegetables). They then added stems, leaves, dirt, and bulbs to finish the project.
