The pre-kindergarten students just began their unit on butterflies. We looked at pictured of monarch butterflies and talked about why they look the way they do. Each student received a large cut out of a butterfly made of coffee filter material. We used permanent markers to mimic the black markings on their wings. To fill in yellow-orange of their wings, we used liquid water color and eye droppers. The texture of the paper soaks up the paint creating a tie-dye like effect.
