The third grade students embraced the warm weather with these colorful cacti. We began by painting the background with water activated tempera paint. They could make a sunset sky, daytime, nighttime, or stormy weather. While their background dried, we drew cacti on another piece of paper and painted them green. Once they were cut out and glued down, we made them prickly by stamping on black paint with small pieces of cardboard. The final touch was to glue on flowers made of crumpled tissue paper.
