We started class by reading Where the Wild Things Are. We talked about imagination and all of the different creatures that Max, the main character, thinks of. Then, the students were given the option of drawing a Wild Thing from the book, or using their own imaginations to create a new creature. Before class, I made color copies of the illustrations to spark our creativity. We started with black marker, then filled our drawings in with tempera paint. Once they were dry, we cut them out and mounted them on paper the color of the forest.
