Whenever we can, we try to incorporate recycled materials into our art projects. Recently, we were fortunate to have a family donate a number of glass jars. We decided to turn these jars into scarecrows using paper mâché. We began by covering the top half in tan paper for the head and bottom half with colored paper for the shirt. They added eyes, noses, and mouths. Our final step was the bib and straps of overalls. Once they had dried, strips of yellow paper were hot glued on for hair.
