The fourth graders were the first lower school students to work with clay. For this project, we made creatures from pinch pots. They each began with a ball of clay. By pushing their thumbs into the middle of the ball and pressing out, they created the basic pot shape. The pots were laid on their sides to act as the head and mouth for the creature. We talked about scoring and slipping (scratching and adding a water and clay mixture) to make sure all of their eyes, teeth, etc. stayed on. These creatures will dry for the next few weeks before they go into the kiln. Once fired, we will paint them.
