2nd Grade Clay Fish

The 1st grade students made these fish from slabs of clay.  Each student started with a slab about a 1/2 an inch thick.  We rolled them out to be a little less than 1/4 of an inch and got started.  Each student received a paper stencil of a fish.  Using the pointed end of a wooden skewer we traced the stencil to cut the shapes out.  With the extra scraps cut from the edges, we added fins, eyeballs, and other fun designs. Using the same tool, we carved faces and designs into our fish to bring them to life.  Once they are fired, we will “glaze” them with acrylic paint.
